Downtown Silver Spring is Montgomery County's first Arts & Entertainment District designated by the state of Maryland. Today, hundreds of artists live and/or work in Silver Spring, and dozens of arts groups call Silver Spring home. Monthly Arts Walks, the Annual Magical Montomery County Arts Fair, Arts on the Block and many other programs are based in downtown Silver Spring. For more information on arts events in Silver Spring, contact: www.ahcmc.org This important program, which smooths the way for businesses in downtown Silver Spring to acquire needed inspections and permits quickly, was developed and recommended to Montgomery County by GSSCC’s Economic Development Committee. Today, the program is one of the most desirable incentives for businesses moving into downtown Silver Spring. Business Development Center The GSSCC Smart City Task Force studied in depth the prospect of encouraging a small business development center, or business “incubator,” in Silver Spring. Its work, which included tours of local incubator sites and facilitating discussions between incubator management companies and the Montgomery County Government, resulted in the County’s recent announcement that it would build its next business development center in a redeveloping area of South Silver Spring. < Back Through the GSSCC's economic development efforts, Silver Spring was granted Enterprise Zone status by the state of Maryland, enabling businesses special tax incentives and other advantages when expanding or relocating into Silver Spring’s central business district.
