Downtown Silver Spring is Montgomery County's first Arts & Entertainment District designated by the state of Maryland. Today, hundreds of artists live and/or work in Silver Spring, and dozens of arts groups call Silver Spring home. Monthly Arts Walks, the Annual Magical Montomery County Arts Fair, Arts on the Block and many other programs are based in downtown Silver Spring. This important program, which smooths the way for businesses in downtown Silver Spring to acquire needed inspections and permits quickly, was developed and recommended to Montgomery County by GSSCC’s Economic Development Committee. Today, the program is one of the most desirable incentives for businesses moving into downtown Silver Spring. Through the GSSCC's economic development efforts, Silver Spring was granted Enterprise Zone status by the state of Maryland, enabling businesses special tax incentives and other advantages when expanding or relocating into Silver Spring’s central business district.
