GSSCC 15th Anniversary Celebration Begins Watch your mailbox for an invitation to GSSCC’s 15th Anniversary Celebration Reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26 in the Atrium at Lee Plaza. Cost is only $15 to participate in the festivities. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by some of Silver Spring’s finest restaurants. Eggspectation will host the cash bar. Everyone who attends the reception will receive a commemorative 15th Anniversary lapel pin, featuring a special logo designed by chamber member Auras Design, Inc. Any member who makes a minimum $15 contribution to the Chamber during this anniversary year will also receive an anniversary pin. Sponsorships at $150 and $1,500 are also being sought. Councilmember Ervin and County Executive Host Silver Spring Small Business Reception Councilmember Ervin and Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will host a reception for small businesses in Silver Spring from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, February 4, at the old fire station in downtown Silver Spring. On the agenda for the evening will be a review on the background of development in Silver Spring, a discussion of the important role small business plays in the success of Silver Spring, a discussion of current development in the Fenton Village and the Ripley District, and a review of resources available to small businesses. County Publishes Flyer Outlining Details of Live Nation Agreement The Montgomery County Office of Public Information has published a one-page flyer outlining the details of the County Executive’s agreement with Live Nation on a lease to create a new live music venue in downtown Silver Spring. Chamber will Support Executive’s Proposal to Streamline County Procurement Process When County Executive Ike Leggett’s recently announced 10-point plan to improve the procurement process for County businesses comes before the Council, GSSCC will be there to support this effort. Chamber Continues to Fight Sales Tax on Computer Services In concert with other Maryland Chambers of Commerce and the Tech Council of Maryland, GSSCC will work to continue urging the repeal of extending the sales tax to computer services. To assist in educating and engaging the business community, the coalition has launched a website at . Chamber to Testify on Berliner Green Bills The Chamber will be among witnesses testifying this Thursday evening on the seven 'global warming' bills, introduced by Councilmember Roger Berliner in November aimed at reducing the County's carbon footprint. GSSCC Partners with other Montgomery County Chambers for Legislative Breakfast GSSCC has joined with other chambers in Montgomery County to host a legislative breakfast for members of the Maryland House and Senate Delegation prior to their return to Annapolis this month. Special thanks to Discovery Communications, Montgomery College, PH Rockwood Corporation and Social & Scientific Systems for signing on as sponsors for this event. The breakfast is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Monday, January 7. Reservations and advance payment are required. Call the Chamber for more information. Council Schedules Town Hall Meeting A town hall meeting with members of the Montgomery County Council has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30 at the AFI/Silver Theatre, 8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring.
