As an added benefit for our member companies, GSSCC is offering another Commercial Energy Co-op. The deadline for commercial applications is October 15, 2011 and may be requested from the Chamber office (301-565-3777). Since 2004, the GSSCC- CQI Energy Cooperative has helped numerous area businesses realize long-term budget stability and savings. In fact since its inception, CQI Associates has assisted over 19,000 businesses with over 34,000 utility accounts in several states lower their utility bills. Benefits of the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce Commercial Energy Cooperative: Please refer to the CQI website for details. The Residential Energy Cooperative Program is similar to the Chamber’s Commercial Energy Cooperative, created in 2006 with CQI Associates, an energy management and procurement company. The Co-operative Program is based on the premise that bringing Chamber members together creates the opportunity to procure energy at better rates than any single applicant can purchase on their own. Silver Spring Police Officer of the Year The Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce recognized the determination and success of 10 Enterprising Entrepreneurs – Chamber members that have grown their businesses despite challenging economic times and, at the same time, given back to the broader community and actively supported the Chamber. The awards were presented at the Chamber’s annual Awards & Installation Dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Silver Spring. Adopting a racing theme for the evening’s festivities, the Chamber acknowledged that some companies “may have been merely running on fumes or had more than their fair share of flat tires,” and commended those that “stayed the race with a great pit crew, the right equipment, and a well thought out race plan in successful pursuit of the checkered flag.” Companies recognized as GSSCC’s Silver Spring Enterprising Entrepreneurs included: the architectural firm of EBA Ernest Bland Associates P.C.; catering company My Kitchen; Fenwick Beer and Wine; technology services company Digital Industry; Lansat Photography; The Copy Center at CHI Centers; Pyramid Atlantic Art Center; Southern Management Corporation; Pre-Paid Legal Services representative Rebecca Silvestre; and Mel Tull, who received a special individual award for his role in helping countless Enterprising Entrepreneurs establish businesses in Silver Spring when he was in his former role as manager of the Silver Spring Green Tape Zone, the Silver Spring Enterprise Zone, and the Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment District. Also honored at the Chamber dinner was the Silver Spring Police Officer of the Year Officer Robert Paden, selected for the courage and dedication he demonstrated when he responded to the hostage crisis at Discovery Communications last year. In addition, the Chamber also installed members of the 2011-2012 GSSCC Board of Directors who officially assumed office on July 1.
