County Council Repeals Extension
of Parking Enforcement Hours

The Montgomery County Council voted to repeal its previous decision to begin charging for parking during the evening and on weekends at meters and in County-owned garages and lots. The resolution by Councilmember Valerie Ervin passed by a unanimous vote of those present. The vote comes after Chamber Chairman Jim Walker testified last Thursday in favor of this resolution. Parking enforcement hours will revert back to the previous times on August 1, 2007.

Chamber Will Testify for Repealing
Parking Enforcement Hours Extension

The Chamber will support a resolution to be introduced by 5th District Councilmember Valerie Ervin tomorrow that will virtually repeal recent action taken by the Council to extend enforcement for parking hours throughout the County. Councilmembers March Elrich and George Leventhal will co-sponsor the measure. The public hearing is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 26. Planning Board Schedules Meeting
On New Headquarters Project

The Montgomery County Planning Board has scheduled a public information meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, on the development of SilverPlace – a proposed mixed-use project that includes a new headquarters for Park and Planning. The mixed-use development is proposed to include affordable housing units, retail space and the headquarters, which would replace the agency’s current old, cramped quarters at the corner of Spring Street and Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring.
