GSSCC Business-After-Golf “Business After Golf” was held Thursday, May 17, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hampshire Greens replacing June’s GSSCC Business After Hours. It was a success after our wonderful golf tournament! GSSCC Networking Breakfast GSSCC Networking Breakfast on Wednesday, May 9, at Tastee Diner (8601 Cameron Street, Silver Spring) was truly a hit! The Newport School was our Spotlight Speaker this breakfast. Thanks to all who came out for our event. Purple Line Focus Group/Info Session for Business A discussion and focus group was held on Thursday, May 31 to discuss the plans for the alignment of the Purple Line through Silver Spring. It was a great chance for some 30-plus GSSCC member businesses to weigh in on the alignment decision. Michael Madden of the Maryland Transit Administration provided an update and answered questions about current plans. The next step in the process is a ridership study that will begin in June to determine regional travel demand. Initial planning was based on the assumption that most riders would take long trips on the new line; more recent intelligence indicates the need to focus on shorter trips, which could mean that more station stops will be needed. Alignment options too have changed since early planning. The current schedule calls for public hearings to be held in the Spring of 2008 and a selection of a locally preferred alignment in the Spring or early Summer of 2008. Construction would not begin until 2012 at the earliest, assuming funding is secured. A full copy of the presentation is available on GSSCC’s website at www.gsscc.org. Back |
